This page is just a placeholder until I build a more final about page.

'notails' is a clumsy reference to the tail-less cats that the Isle of Man is known for. I live in the Isle of Man. This isn't a website about tail-less cats or the Isle of Man. Don't ask me to go into detail about why I chose that URL. I'm not really sure myself!

This website is primarily a 'playground' for me to practice and refine my web technology skills (and some other related skills). Web technologies used on this website include HTML (obviously), CSS, PHP, MySQL (using PDO), Javascript, Jquery, AJAX. I also use photoshop to produce page titles, button images, and to post-process the photos in the photography section.

Some would say that web technologies should be practiced and learned offline (using your computer as a web server and practicing on it locally) and I would agree with them for pure practicing. But I wanted this to be online for several reasons.

• Having the website publicly viewable increases the motivation to get it right/ make it good/ make it secure.
• People can more easily give me criticism/advice if they have access to it.
• The website is not just for practice/learning.

At this moment in time there is no focus on generating hits or page views. It would be nice to get lots of those, but I don't want to put it 'out there' until/unless it has a function that people will find useful and/or entertaining.
